Harkness Roses

Introduction

Harkness Roses is a long established British rose breeder and supplier known for producing a wide range of garden roses for UK growers. With origins dating back to the late nineteenth century, the brand has become associated with traditional horticulture, selective breeding, and an emphasis on creating roses suited to British growing conditions. Its role within the market sits between heritage horticultural expertise and accessible consumer gardening, which gives it a recognisable place among UK rose specialists.

The brand focuses on rose cultivation and distribution, offering a mixture of classic varieties and newer introductions developed through its breeding programme. As a specialist grower, it typically appeals to gardeners who want a more curated range than is usually found in general garden centres. This positions the company in a niche category of horticultural retailers where depth of expertise is a key part of the offering.

Harkness Roses presents itself as a supplier of both practical and ornamental varieties. Its catalogue usually features shrub roses, hybrid teas, floribundas, climbing roses, and patio types, along with gift options and seasonal sets. The tone of its offering suggests a balance between tradition and ongoing development, with newer varieties introduced periodically through its breeding work.

For readers researching a brand overview or exploring whether this specialist grower might suit their garden plans, expectations can include a focus on rose specific knowledge, a broad selection, and a horticultural style that reflects its long running history. The company’s positioning makes it broadly accessible to home gardeners while still maintaining a specialist identity.
